The Aftermath of a Serious Workplace Accident: New Orleans Man Survives on the Job Injury, Life as an Amputee

Amputee

20-year-old Jamie Fredericks has certainly seen much more in his young life than most. The young New Orleans man was involved in a fatal workplace accident during which his 25-year-old coworker was killed, and he was severely injured. According to reports, the horrific workplace accident that Fredericks was involved in occurred on January 19 of this year at the Jindal Tubular manufacturing facility located at Port Bienville in Hancock County, Louisiana. Fredericks and Tyde Woody were working at the manufacturing facility just like any other day, when a steel pipe apparently rolled over the two workers, killing Woody and severely injuring and permanently impairing Fredericks.

As a result of the horrific workplace accident at Jindal Tubular, Jamie Fredericks was required to undergo multiple surgeries and medical procedures. Frederick’s legs were crushed when the steel pipe rolled over him and Tyde Woody, and he suffered both pelvic and spinal fractures to his body. Tragically, Fredericks was required to undergo two procedures that would forever change the course of his young life: on January 29, Frederick’s right leg was amputated below the knee. Then, only one day later, Fredericks was handed the terrible news that his left leg would be required to be amputated above the knee on February 2.

As for Fredericks, the workplace accident that occurred on January 19 will forever shape the trajectory of his life, and will likely serve as a constant reminder of the terrible incident that happened while he was simply doing his job. Frederick’s family has supported him through these tough times and his mother says of his recovery, “He is still in good spirits…He knows that there will be some hard work ahead of him, but we will be right there with him.” Fredericks is said to be going to rehab and will be fitted for prosthetics, as a result of his amputations, in the future.
