New Orleans Police Officer, Woman Hit by Out-of-Control Car on St. Charles Avenue – What Can a Car Accident Victim in New Orleans Do after Being Injured in a Serious Car Accident?

PI_Law5

There is no doubt that many New Orleans residents and drivers are somewhat “used to” hearing about serious car accidents that happen all over the city. Indeed, between drunk driving car accidents, distracted driving car accidents, and other reckless  and negligent car accidents occurring at a pace that  almost appears to be daily, New Orleans drivers may be putting their lives and wellbeing on the line every time they get into their vehicles. Unfortunately, a recent car accident that injured not only a New Orleans woman, but also a New Orleans police officer, demonstrates this point.

According to local news reports, on the morning of Sunday, November 3, a New Orleans police officer and an unidentified female were hit by another vehicle as the New Orleans police officer was responding to a call for police service. The first accident occurred on St. Charles Avenue, where the New Orleans police officer is reported to have been driving at around 7:42 a.m.  The officer was near the accident location, which was close to Louisiana Avenue, when an out-of-control Honda Civic hit the police officer in his cruiser. The officer had both his lights and sirens on and flashing at the time of the accident. When the New Orleans police officer was hit by the Honda, it caused the police cruiser to hit a light pole. The police officer and the other female victim were taken to the hospital for “injuries that were not life-threatening”. The incident is still under investigation and, as of the time of the most recent reports, no citations have been issued.

The recent car accident in New Orleans demonstrates that anyone can fall victim to a car accident in New Orleans, even police officers with their lights and sirens blasting.
