Mississippi Oil Worker Tragically Killed in Windstorm – What Rights Do Injured Mississippi Workers Have under Mississippi Workers’ Compensation Laws?

Oilfield

Tragic reports of the death of a young Mississippi worker came out earlier this year, highlighting both the dangers that inclement weather can present to oil workers in Mississippi, and the rights and options that injured Mississippi workers have under Mississippi workers’ compensation laws. According to local news reports, a 24-year-old oil worker was killed on Tuesday, June 4, amidst windstorms that overtook the state. The young oil worker had been working for Challenger Deep Well Servicing at a jobsite located at Highway 28 and Magnum Garner Road. Investigations into the fatal workplace accident reveal that the young oil worker had been working on a 55-foot tall mobile well tower at the jobsite when severe winds threatened to topple the tower over. A supervisor at the jobsite is said to have instructed the young worker to come down from the tower as a result of the winds, but before the young worker had a chance to make his descent, the wind blew the tower over and it landed on its side. The young worker, who had been attached by safety gear to the tower, tragically was killed as a result of the accident. The young worker has not yet been identified to the public, but investigators indicate that he was from Columbia, Mississippi. The case is ongoing and investigations are underway.

These benefits include money benefits to help the worker heal from their injuries and return to their regular work.
