Missing Louisiana Worker Found Deceased after South Pass Pipeline Explosion

PipelineExplosion

Questions surrounding the whereabouts of a missing pipeline worker who went missing after a pipeline explosion and fire in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana have been answered, but the results are grim. According to local news reports, on Saturday, August 17, just before 8:00 p.m., there was an explosion and resulting fire in a “marsh area” near Venice, Louisiana, in Plaquemines Parish. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but the 40-year-old worker who went missing was tragically found dead, according to the United States Coast Guard. The worker, who has been identified as 40-year-old Joshua Nichols of Lake Charles, Louisiana, is said to have been operating a mud boat near a pipeline used for natural gas when the explosion occurred. The explosion also ignited a fire. The Louisiana State Police released a Facebook post regarding the tragic workplace death, further explaining that, “On Sunday, August 18, 2024, Troopers from the Emergency Services Unit responded to an area and began investigating the events pertaining to the incident. The preliminary investigation revealed that Nichols was operating a mud boat near a natural gas pipeline. For reasons still under investigation, an explosion and fire occurred while Nichols was believed to be working on the pipeline. Nichols died as a result, and with the assistance of the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office, his body was recovered in the area of the incident. No other individuals were injured.”

Louisiana Workers’ Compensation Benefits – Are There Benefits Available for Families Who Have Lost Loved Ones to Fatal Workplace Accidents?

Something that some Louisiana families may not know about Louisiana workers’ compensation laws is that they entitle more than just injured Louisiana workers themselves to workers’ compensation benefits. In addition to providing injured Louisiana workers with important workers’ compensation benefits to get them back on their feet after a serious workplace injury occurs, Louisiana workers’ compensation benefits also entitle certain dependent surviving family members of workers who have passed away due to tragic workplace accidents to workers’ compensation death benefits. There is a limited time to file a workers’ compensation death benefits claim under Louisiana workers’ compensation laws, so it is always best to consult with an experienced Louisiana workers’ compensation lawyer as soon as possible after a serious workplace accident occurs.
