Louisiana Teacher Killed by Drunk Driver in ATV-Involved Car Accident

ATV2

The tragic and devastating news of the death of a Louisiana teacher serves as a clear and powerful warning sign for Louisiana residents and others of the dangers of drunk driving, even when one is not driving a car on the road. According to local Louisiana news reports, KPEL965, 39-year-old Summer Le of Bunkie was killed in a drunk driving car accident on Sunday, April 7, near Arnaudville in St. Martin’s Parish. Le was a teacher at Port Barre High School in Port Barre, Louisiana.

Reports indicate that Le was not the driver of a car on the road when she was killed in the drunk driving accident, but was rather a passenger on an ATV side-by-side. Le and the driver of the ATV, Ryan Lormand of Arnaudville, were traveling on Louisiana Highway 737 new Leblanc Drive, when the terrible drunk driving accident occurred. As Le and Lormand traveled down the highway, they were hit from behind by 60-year-old Joseph Davis. Davis was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck. Upon impact from being hit from behind, both Le and Lormand are said to have been thrown from the side-by-side ATV. Le was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and Lormand sustained moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital. Davis was reportedly not injured in the crash. Davis underwent a breathalyzer test administered by Louisiana State Police, which revealed that he had been driving while intoxicated at a level three times higher than the legal limit. Davis was booked into the St. Martin Parish Corrections Center.

Summer Le’s untimely and preventable death was the fifteenth death to occur in the greater Lafayette area in 2024. The case is still ongoing.
