Louisiana Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident Highlighting Sky-High Number of Hit-and-Run Accidents in State

HitRun3

The small town of Dulac, Louisiana saw a tragic and unfortunate pedestrian accident just this week and a community seeks answers as the investigation into what exactly happened – and who did it – is ongoing. According to national news reports, on Monday, September 9, right after the following Labor Day weekend holiday, a pedestrian was killed at just before 8:00 a.m. in the morning by a hit-and-run driver in Dulac, Louisiana. Reports indicate that the hit-and-run pedestrian accident occurred at LA 57 and Avet Street in the small town of Dulac, which has a population of less than 2,000 people. Louisiana State Police indicate that, so far, they have learned that on that Monday morning, an unknown vehicle hit the pedestrian and immediately fled the scene of the accident, without contacting any local law enforcement authorities. The victim – who has also not been identified to the public yet – was taken to the hospital, but succumbed to their injuries the next day and passed away.

The suspect hit-and-run vehicle is said to be a “dark-colored pickup” that was traveling in a northbound direction on LA 57. Local law enforcement officers indicate that the front of the vehicle should have damage to the front from the hit-and-run pedestrian accident, and urge anyone with information to contact them. The investigation into the terrible and unfortunate fatal pedestrian hit-and-run accident is ongoing, and it remains to be seen whether criminal charges will be brought against the driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian and fled the scene.

Louisiana Sees Host of Hit-and-Run Accidents – Recent Hit-and-Run is Not Isolated Incident

Unfortunately, hit-and-run accidents are not all-too rare in Louisiana, and it is known as being one of the states that is, in fact, the worst for hit-and-run accidents. According to KPEL965, a local news source, Louisiana is the most dangerous state in the U.S. for hit-and-run accidents, with a 9.52% rate of hit-and-run accidents when it comes to fatal traffic accidents. New Orleans is the deadliest city in Louisiana for hit-and-run accidents, and ranks 14th in the United States when it comes to the cities with the most hit-and-run accidents in the United States.
