Grand Jury Decides No Indictment on Criminal Charges Related to 2019 New Orleans Hard Rock Hotel Collapse – Rights of Victims of Workplace Accidents Under Louisiana Laws Explained

WorkInjury16

News of a New Orleans’ jury’s decision not to indict any person or party involved or related to the horrific collapse of a Hard Rock Hotel in New Orleans in 2019 was handed down last October, but New Orleans workers and the families of New Orleans workers still have questions about the options for justice of the families left behind when horrific workplace accidents occur in Louisiana. As many New Orleans residents may recall, the New Orleans Hard Rock Hotel collapse was a catastrophic accident that happened in 2019 in New Orleans’ French Quarter. Over 100 construction workers were working on the Hard Rock Hotel project when the collapse occurred, and, ultimately, three people were killed and 30 other individuals were injured, as a result of the major construction accident. The three workers that were killed in the accident were identified as 36-year-old Quinnyon Wimberly, 49-year-old Anthony Floyd Magrette, and 63-year-old Jose Ponce Arreola. The Orleans Parish District Attorney said of the jury’s decision not to move forward with criminal charges against any of the potentially responsible parties in the accident that it was a “disheartening day”, and “Our entire team at OPDA (Orleans Parish District Attorney) is frustrated with this outcome. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families as they continue their emotional healing journey”.
