Former Mississippi Security Guard Sentenced in DUI Car Accident that Killed New Orleans Sisters

CarCrash

A former longtime Mississippi Coast security guard was sentenced in connection with a drunk driving car accident that killed two sisters from New Orleans this week, and a community is reminded of the horrors that inevitably come along with a fatal drunk driving car accident. According to local news reports, the Biloxi Sun Herald, criminal defendant Joseph Leo Nangle was sentenced in Mississippi State court for a 2022 drunk driving car crash that took the lives of three sisters.

The terrible and fatal drunk driving car accident occurred on the evening of July 9, 2022, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. While the Kelley sisters, Julie and Lisa, were on their way from their home in New Orleans to Ocean Springs where they regularly visited family for “fun weekends”, Nagle had been drinking alcohol at the Golden Nugget casino in Biloxi and decided to hit the road. Nagle is also said to have taken a pill “he believed to be Adderall” and blood tests showed that he had “snorted some methamphetamine”. Nangle ultimately crashed into the Kelley sisters while they were driving en route to Ocean Springs. Nangle was traveling at speeds of 60 miles per hour when he rear-ended the sisters in their vehicle and four other motorists on U.S. 90 at Ocean Springs road.

Of the terrible accident, and the ensuing 50-year jail sentence (of which Nangle must serve 45 years), Nangle said, “I don’t have the words to describe or explain how truly devastated and remorseful I am for being responsible for this unimaginable accidental tragedy that resulted in the deaths of Mary and Elizabeth … and injured others…I never intended for this accident to happen…I am not an evil man or a violent man…Nor have I ever been. I stand here as a human being, a man taking full responsibility for this accident.” Nangle also added, addressing the Kelley family and friends of the Kelley sisters, “I am sorry I ruined your life…I’m so sorry I ruined your life. I’m so sorry I ruined your family and my family”. Nangle alleges that he has stayed sober for 800 days as a result of the crash.
