Drunk Driver Plows into New Orleans Home, Injuring Teen Who Was Fast Asleep in His Room

CarCrash8

A New Orleans teenager was quite possibly nearly killed as he lay asleep in his bedroom by an out-of-control drunk driver. The frightening story highlights just how dangerous drunk drivers can be, not only to other motorists on the road, but to pedestrians, kids playing on sidewalks, and other people simply living their lives in their homes near Louisiana’s roads. According to local news reports, at the tail end of August this year, a teenager who was asleep in his room was critically injured by a drunk driver that plowed into his house. The terrible and frightening crash occurred in the wee hours of the morning of August 25, at around 4:02 a.m. At that time, 53-year-old Cedrick Marshall is said to have plowed into a home on the corner of Cerise Avenue and Chef Menteur Highway in New Orleans. In the home lay fast-asleep 15-year-old Jamal Jackson, a young tenth grader at Edna Karr High School. Jackson is a member of the football team, band, and drill team at his school.

Young Jamal Jackson was said by family members to have been virtually underneath Marshall’s vehicle at the accident scene, with his grandmother exclaiming at the scene of the accident, “They took [Marshall] out of the car and put him in handcuffs…I was trying to get my baby. I was trying to help them get him from under the car.” Jackson was taken to the hospital and was treated in the intensive care unit. Marshall is reported to have stayed at the scene of the accident and was arrested after he failed a field sobriety test. Marshall was charged with first-degree vehicular negligent injury and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. He was also treated for injuries that were described as “minor” as a result of the crash.
