RedlightCamera

News of an erratic and frightening driver who hit one car and launched his vehicle into New Orleans’ iconic Joy Theatre spread across local news sources earlier this month and serves to show New Orleans residents just how spontaneous and unexpected a serious car accident can be. According to local New Orleans news, 4WWL TV Louisiana, earlier this month on Thursday, May 2, at around 6:30 p.m. a driver in New Orleans drove his vehicle through a red stoplight, then hit another car that was on the road, and then crashed into the historic Joy Theatre on New Orleans’ Canal Street. The Joy Theatre is a historic landmark in New Orleans that hosts shows and private events still to this day. Apparently, and fortunately, both the driver of the car that ran the stoplight and the driver of the car that was hit appeared to not be critically injured as New Orleans Police Department authorities reported that, “Both drivers reportedly complained of injury, but both refused medical treatment.” The New Orleans Police Department also released a statement about the accident, reporting that “Officers learned that the Equinox was traveling in the northbound right lane on Canal Street when the driver is believed to have disregarded a red traffic light at the intersection with Basin Street…The Equinox then struck a second vehicle before leaving the roadway and striking the building.”

Additional information about exactly what led up to the accident has not yet been released and investigators are still looking into the accident. However, the driver that failed to stop at the red light and plowed into the other car and the Joy Theatre was cited by law enforcement for careless operation of a vehicle, driving without insurance and registration, and for ignoring the traffic signal.
