A terrible bus-involved truck accident took the lives of two individuals on Thursday morning this week, and students and staff at a local community college have been shaken. According to local news reports, on the evening of Thursday, September 19, a 2011 MCI Bus was traveling to Summit, Mississippi, on Highway 98 with members of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s “Band of Gold” onboard, traveling to play at a football game. At the same time, a Ford Ranger driven by 51-year-old Gregory Young was traveling north on Pike 93, and collided with the bus at the cross-over of Highway 98. Young was pronounced dead at the scene, and another victim, 46-year-old Brandy Simmons of Magnolia, also died in the accident. After the accident, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College officials released a statement to the public, advising, “An MGCCC college bus was involved in an accident this evening on its way to a football game at Southwest MS Community College.
