According to local news reports, the terrible accident occurred on Sunday, July 21 on Louisiana’s Highway 3090 in Lafourche Parish at around 1:00 a.m. At that time, 18-year-old Axel Flores-Cordova was driving south on the highway when he crossed the center lane of the road with his vehicle and struck 18-year-old Taliyah Crochet and her 18-year-old boyfriend Ryan Oncale head-on. There were two other occupants of the vehicle riding in the backseat behind Crochet and Oncale. Crochet and Oncale were tragically killed in the drunk driving car accident. Flores-Cordova is said to have been intoxicated seven times the legal limit set for adults and he was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and other criminal charges. Flores-Cordova was not wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred, but he was not injured in the car accident. Devin Deen, the mother of Taliyah Crochet said of the terrible ordeal that took her daughter’s young life, “I heard a hard knocking on the door… They had three state troopers and immediately they said, ‘I am looking for the parents of Taliyah Crochet’… and, girl, I didn’t even know what to do, my boyfriend opened the door, and I was like they’re saying Taliyah is dead.” She also noted that, “It’s just so hard, these kids work so hard, so hard for 18-year-olds, they had such old souls… And now it’s all just gone, and I am having such a hard time grasping the fact that, like, it’s really just over. Like, they’re gone.”
