13-Year-Old Escondido, California Boy’s Death in Suspected Drunk Driving Car Accident Raises Questions among Louisiana Families about the Rights and Options of Surviving Family Members under Louisiana Laws

CarAccident4

A 13-year-old Escondido, California boy’s death in a suspected drunk driving car accident sent waves through the community of Escondido, and has re-awakened the conversation about the rights of surviving family members of drunk driving car accidents all the way in New Orleans. The terrible and senseless accident occurred just last week on the evening of Saturday, April 27, but serves as another example of the age-old problem experienced throughout the country: impaired and intoxicated driving.

According to local news reports, NBC San Diego, the fatal car accident that took the young 13-year-old boy’s life happened at around 10:00 p.m. last weekend at the intersection of North Broadway and Country Club Lane in Escondido, California. Law enforcement officers investigating the accident believe that one of the drivers involved in the accident, 20-year-old Alexander Tito Oroz was driving while intoxicated and he was arrested and booked on criminal charges of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. According to reports, Mr. Oroz was driving the 13-year-old boy and an unidentified female passenger in his vehicle when the accident happened. Although details are still scarce regarding the recent fatal car crash, authorities reported that they arrived on the scene of the accident to find a number of people injured. Three of those who were injured, including the 13-year-old boy, were rushed to the hospital. Tragically, the 13-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the Palomar Medical Center after being transported there for treatment. Investigations into the horrific suspected drunk driving car accident are still ongoing, and Mr. Oroz is currently being held on a $500,000 bail.

Rights and Options for the Surviving Family Members of Victims of Fatal Car Accidents in Louisiana

There is no doubt that drunk driving and intoxicated driving is wrong, senseless, and totally avoidable. Although no person should have to lose a loved one to a drunk driving car accident, the unfortunate reality is that drunk driving car accidents happen far too often in the United States and in Louisiana, and beloved sons, daughters, mothers, and fathers are killed all-too-soon. In Louisiana, when a person is killed in a drunk driving car accident due to the fault of another driver, certain close surviving members of their family may be entitled to compensation under Louisiana wrongful death laws. There is a limited time to file a claim for compensation under Louisiana wrongful death laws, so it is best to speak with an experienced Louisiana personal injury lawyer as soon as possible after a fatal car accident occurs to discuss your rights and options to justice.

The experienced Louisiana personal injury lawyers at Lunsford Baskin & Priebe, PLLC are here to help Louisiana families get justice for the loss of their loved ones at the hands of drunk drivers. Contact Lunsford Baskin & Priebe, PLLC today and speak to a lawyer about your case.
